The NBA, a longtime GLSEN partner and past Respect Awards honoree, will donate all proceeds from Jason Collins jersey sales to GLSEN and the Matthew Shepard Foundation.
The combined donation will total at least $100,000!
We are incredibly grateful for the NBA’s continued leadership in the effort to make sports safe and more inclusive for LGBT athletes!
Long before Jason came out, the NBA worked with GLSEN on our Think Before You Speak Ad Council campaign. NBA players Grant Hill and Jared Dudley helped teens and sports fans realize that using homophobic phrases like “that’s so gay” is not cool – not in sports, not anywhere. The spot PSA aired hundreds of times throughout the 2011 playoffs and 2011-12 season.
The NBA has also supported GLSEN’s Changing the Game program to ensure that K-12 physical education and sports are safe, inclusive and respectful for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, gender expression or gender identity.
The NBA is a pioneer and we want to say thank you! Will you take a minute to help us by sending a note of your own thanking the NBA for their support of Jason, GLSEN and LGBT people everywhere?
